Free Shoes From Shoes For Crews

I have been wearing the same crap pair of shoes to work for over two years. I bought them at Payless in 2009 and then a few months after that I bought some insoles to try to make them more comfortable. The "leather" on them has peeled off, they are cracked and the laces are more frayed than my nerves on a brunch shift. I only wear them at work so I didn't really care. It's not that I couldn't afford a new pair of shoes, it's just that I resent buying clothing and shoes that I will only wear when I am serving food. It pisses me off. A few weeks ago I was approached by Shoes For Crews and was told they would give me a free pair of work shoes in exchange for a review. You know my cheap-ass ears pricked up when the word "free" made itself known. I also knew Shoes For Crews from having bought my first pair many chicken fried steaks ago when I worked at Black Eyed Pea. I am also going to be giving out FOUR FREE PAIR for you, readers. Details on that later.

My Review of Shoes For Crews

I ordered a pair of Vibe II Shoes in a size 7 1/2. I went to the Shoes For Crews website and looked at all my options but I chose them because they looked comfortable, I liked the lace up kind of shoe versus a slip on and how could I resist the name of Vibe II? They showed up at my door one week later and the next day I wore them to work. First off, let me say, they are very comfortable. I practically floated to work because they are as light as homemade meringue unlike my Payless shoes that were so heavy they made me walk like I had a case of the clubfoot. All Shoes For Crews are slip resistant which is oh so very important in a restaurant. There are a lot of good reasons to wear slip resistant shoes at work, the number one reason being that you won't slip and bust your ass on the hard tile floor. I've done it when I worked at Bennigan's and they encouraged us to wear shitty Converse high tops. Those shoes have no support and they practically invite you to slide across a walk-in floor that is covered with Ranch dressing. Falling once into a pile of disgusting and getting your uniform dirty will make you forever praise the value of non-slip work shoes. My new Vibe II shoes do not slip!

When I put them on, the corn on my right foot gave me a look that said, "Aww, man! I can't stay here anymore, it's too roomy." These new shoes give my toes some room to breath which is a welcome relief. They fit my foot well without giving too much room so my heel slips out. Another thing I like about the shoes is that they came with a little scraper that I can use to get all the crap off the bottom. You know what I mean? Say you accidentally stepped on some old rotten cherry tomatoes that you dropped in the sidestand and were too lazy to pick up (it happens) and you didn't realize it until that night when you took your shoes off and saw all this gunk dried in the tread of the shoes. Before, I would have had to use a butter knife or an espresso spoon to scrape that shit out of the there, but Shoes For Crews gives you a handy dandy scarper for just that purpose. It's freakin' genius. The only thing more I could ask of these shoes is that they do my sidework for me. You should totally get a pair for yourself!

When I worked for KFC, I once slipped and fell flat on my back. My manager insisted I get Shoes for Crews, and they were so comfortable, I wore them outside work as well. I was heartbroken when a flood in my basement ruined them.

Damn Shoes for Crews have been around a log time!! I had some about 12 years ago or so...how the HELL does one get approached by them, of all people/companies??

You must have someone else doing all of your running to have a pair of shoes last two years! :P I'm lucky to get 6 months out of my Payless non-skids. (I think I used to get a year out of the SFC.)

SFC's (shoes for crews) will definitely last the longest and they are the BEST for non-skid (except for Croc's!), however it is my experience that they are HORRIBLY uncomfortable. A few of us would have screaming feet for over two months which seemed to be the point where the shoe's insole would break down sufficiently to be comfortable.

I tried 3 or 4 styles of their shoes and finally opted for a less safe variety because I just couldn't DO that to my feet anymore! Payless shoes don't feel good but they don't KILL my feet either.

Sketchers makes a non-skid that is tolerable if you can get them at a good discount.

I wish SFC would emulate New Balance.....THAT would be pure heaven. A second best would be if they made a clear slip-on to put over any shoe (currently they only offer black and I wear white tennies). Clear slip-ons would bring back the business of all of my co-workers. Just puttin' it out there. ;-)

Thanks for the chance to weigh in on the subject!

You should have lied about the size.

Update: Shoes for Crews is fallin' off! Yeah, sucks. We've been using them for a few years, and one of our delivery drivers is still using the pair he bought a couple years ago. But the newer ones seem last about 6 months tops. Also, if your company is less than 200 employees, or isn't planning on buying $1000 of shoes at a time, don't think you'll be getting any discounts or special offers from them. You won't. Even if that's what it says on the catalog. Zero discounts. And the customer service is very practiced on dealing with rubes who fall for these tactics. Maybe a little too much so.

I am quite pleased with my Shoes For Crews. And they gave me a free pair as well as five more to give away, so sounds pretty generous to me.

That sounds super. I would change my point of view if they sent me five pairs of free shoes as well, but I unfortunately got the other end of the stick instead. Just want to warn small business owners out there.

i am getting ready to put a pair of sfc avengers to the test.a pair of dr.martens and a pair of keens bought at the same time switched every other ten to fourteen hour day lasted 14 months.ill see what sfcs are made of.

I have to agree with others. The quality has gone way down. My shoes easily would last me at least a year. The past 2 pairs I have bought have worn out in less then 6 months. The soles separated, and my feet were getting soaked from zaxbys kitchen floor goo. Nice thought huh.....? Anyway I am only continuing to order because the owners pay for our shoes. Other employees including managers have all had the same experience this past year or so. Thinking sfc should go back to their old formula, it worked. There are other companies who make slip resistant shoes who would love our business.

We had a shoe allowance and for $30.00 per year and were able to get decent comfortable shoes locally but, last year our company demanded we buy from SFC catalogue. For $30.00 there were 2 choices, slip-on or tie on, I'd prefered velcro- Ordered the sz.8W tied-on although I'm a 7 because they look small in the picture. When they came I, literally, couldn't get my foot into the shoe un-laced!!
Sent them back and ordered the slip-on. (I was told I would be paying sales tax and possibly shpg...Our international company grosses over $16 billion annually but nickels and dimes us while they want more production in less time with less employees. . the word Greed comes to mind BIG TIME GREED!) I wore the slip-on shoes for 2 days only at work, yet it brought back my sciatic pain. I knew I couldn't continue to wear these shit shoes. I move fast until I'm in pain.
Our company made a SUPER deal for themselves: Should their employee wearing SFC slip and fall, then SFC is liable. Considering workmen's comp liability it's such a Swweeeett heart deal for them, not for us. Our company keeps giving us square pegs to put in round holes. Now they're messing with our feet!! I literally can not work with my legs and back screaming in pain, literally can not think straight - Maybe it's the price point?
This year I again tried the tie-on, although they fit, it is how you said, so heavy like two club feet -Was I supposed to try to break these in before they broke me? I was embarassed as I stomped around - I don't know what people might think was wrong with me. We say this is not a $30 shoe, it's a $6.00 shoe. Weasked to go to a higher price point OR a vendor of our own choosing for $30 -- the answer was No. Good luck to anyone trying to work under corporate greed.

Hi Bitchy,

Hope you're well.

I love this post. It’s great to start with the shoes and work up, and with some of the eccentric pairs you have, I imagine if is often the case. You can tell a lot about a man by his shoe collection, as an obsessive shoe collector it's great to get an insight into another chaps mind.
